As young professionals, we always want to look our best when attending job interviews, internships, and at work in general. Yet…many of those jobs are NOT supplying us with the financials we need to have that fabulous work wardrobe. $100 for a pair of black dress pants?! Um, no thank you.
Luckily, I’ve managed to scout out some hidden gems when it comes to professional attire. You know the saying “fake it till you make it”? Well, the same applies to purchasing nice, adult(ish) clothing. We may not be able to afford those $100 slacks quite yet, but we sure can trick you into thinking we’re the chicest of the chic with our $20 Target finds and that designer top we snagged on sale at Nordstrom Rack.
The following 8 stores are my favorite places to shop for my work attire! Each of them are either incredibly affordable OR offer amazing deals on a pretty consistent basis. Check them out :) You can click on the name of each store to start shopping online now, too!
H&M has an entire “professional” section in their store with incredibly low prices! I personally love that it’s all in one section so that you don’t have to dig around for hours searching for something suitable. I can’t say the quality of their clothing is the greatest, yet it will definitely make you look business professional without having to spend like a business professional ;)
Does Forever 21 give anyone else a headache? Every time I step in the store I get so overwhelmed with options! You definitely have to do some digging to find solid work pieces here, but they DO exist. You can snag items like silky tanks, blazers, dressy pants, and professional dresses. My advice? Go in the morning as soon as they open before the place gets crazy chaotic.
I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this site, but I am SO glad I did! This online store has the cutest stuff! And it is VERY cheap. Again, you’ll have to browse to find items that are work appropriate, yet they make it pretty easy. I’ve found several great pieces here to add to my closet!
I. LOVE. LULUS. This may be my favorite place to shop online for both work and play. Although they are known for their dress selection (many of which are business casual - btw), they also have a great selection of blouses and shoes that I’ve found to be great for work. They are slightly more expensive than the stores previously mentioned, yet the quality is definitely greater.
Man, Target is just the mecca for anything you could ever need…including work clothes! They have a REALLY great section in their clothing department called “Who What Wear” that features super cute, professional pieces for very adorable prices. I have several items from it! They also have an awesome selection of business slacks in, like, every color…that are all $25 or less!
Marshalls / TJ Maxx
Marshalls and TJ Maxx have A LOT of great finds at very low prices! However, it is similar to Forever 21 in the sense that you do have to go hunting to find the best items. I really like that they organize everything by size, though! So you can at least go directly to your size to start your search. I’ve found some great dress pants and tops here.
Nothing quite like getting designer clothes at a not-so-designer price! Nordstrom Rack is the best place to do just that. They have name brand clothing splayed everywhere throughout the store for extremely reasonable prices.
Although we all know Banana Republic to be a bit on the pricey side, their clothing is SUCH great quality AND they have tons of sales on the reg. Walk in and head straight for the sales rack to snag the best deals! And definitely sign up for their email list to learn about when the next big blowout sale is.
