On New Years Day I began 2017 the same way I did 2016: with a kick ass yoga class at Charleston Power Yoga, of course. I’m telling you, nothing will make you feel like you can take on the world more than a sweaty workout with those fabulous ladies.
And, during that class, the instructor said something really inspiring that I’d like to share with you all. Rather than setting a resolution for 2017 (which we all know I’m not a huge fan of), she talked about setting an intention: a simple word that embodies what you want to cultivate throughout your entire year. What a great idea! I immediately started thinking about what I truly wanted to manifest in 2017, and decided on the word excitement.
You see, I’ve had trouble in the past filling up my plate with too much extra stuff, and then getting completely burnt out. This was extremely tiring and stressful for a very long time. Anyone else think they're superwoman and do this, too?
Now some of the things I appreciate most in this new, ‘young adult’ stage of my life are evenings unplanned, time to myself, and even *gasp* a calendar without every weekend booked!
So, instead of committing to ridiculous amounts of activities and performing at an average level, I've decided I’d rather give my 100% full dedication and energy to the few activities that I love most so that I can be exceptional. Basically, "if it isn’t a HELL YES, then it’s a NO." I’ve been working for months to trim that excess stuff from my schedule and focus on what I feel is best serving me right now. It’s been so rewarding! My goal is to keep up these good habits and not slip back into that overcommitment mindset that runs me ragged in the new year!
Thus, my intention: EXCITEMENT.
For 2017, I want to show up each and every day excited, enthusiastic and radiating positive energy for those around me and for the commitments I've taken on. AND, I want to inspire others to show up excited in their lives as well!
To successfully do this, I’ll need to put self-care as a TOP priority, making sure I take the time necessary to relax and recharge so that I can always show up at my best: present, determined, and ready to go. I’ll also need to keep my schedule filled with the things I love most, and remember that I would rather excel in a few things than be mediocre at several :)
What is your word for 2017?
